on fear
It's hard to admit that you're afraid.

There are so many things to be afraid of. How do we deal with this? Do we deal with fear, or stuff it away and compartmentalize it? Pretend we’re not afraid? Or act out in a way that masks your fear?
Or, maybe we just sit there, feeling afraid. What’s the use in that?
I feel like running from fear just perpetuates it, I guess. You can run, but you can’t hide. It will always come creeping back in somehow.
So, there must be some kind of confrontation, but it’s not a battle. When feeling afraid, for me at least, there needs to be some kind of acknowledgement of it. It’s a compassionate and inquisitive gaze turned inward.
My experience of meeting fear with compassion and inquisition is a growing practice. I can’t say I’ve really mastered it yet, but I do find it helpful. What happens for me, is that I get used to the feeling of fear, and maybe I build more tolerance for it.
Fear can be overwhelming, and seemingly endless. And if that’s the case, it’s okay to ask for help.
But some days, it seems like fear is lurking behind every possible route you can take.
And no AI, no YouTube video, no phone calls from friends can resolve the avoided feelings.
At some point, you realize there’s no way around it.
And then, well, it’s time to face the music.
Did I mention, this is the essence of bravery?
Until next time,
Peace.
